Building a High-Performance 10Gbps Proxmox Private Cloud in Northern BC
How we built a self-hosted, resilient 10Gbps enterprise lab on Proxmox VE for AI inference, TrueNAS storage, and client media delivery.
As a cybersecurity professional and content studio owner based in Terrace, BC, relying solely on commercial public clouds wasn’t sufficient for our data volumes or privacy standards. Raw 4K 10-bit cinema files and local AI workflows require massive local bandwidth and deterministic compute.
Here is the breakdown of our private multi-node Proxmox VE infrastructure.
Core Cluster Architecture
- Hypervisor Layer: Multi-node Proxmox VE cluster with automated ZFS replication and LXC containers.
- Storage Backbone: TrueNAS SCALE running redundant ZFS pools over dual 10GbE SFP+ DAC optical links.
- Network Segmentation: VLAN separation isolating IoT devices, editing workstations, management interfaces, and external reverse proxies.
- Edge Security: Strict WireGuard and Tailscale zero-trust ingress with zero open public router ports.
Why Local Infrastructure Matters for Creatives
Self-hosting our client media services and internal portals means we can edit multi-terabyte raw video timelines directly over SMB at 1.1 GB/s without local SSD bottlenecks, while guaranteeing that client photos are never mined by third-party cloud algorithms.
