Ferry Island Trail & Cedar Carvings: A Peaceful Walking & Photography Guide
Exploring the hidden tree-bark carvings, serene river channels, and cottonwood forests of Terrace’s Ferry Island.
Located right in the middle of the Skeena River on the edge of Terrace, Ferry Island is a treasured community park. The gentle 3-kilometer loop trail winds through towering cottonwood trees and lush ferns.
Finding the Hidden Tree Carvings
Local artist Rick Lecoche spent years carving dozens of whimsical faces, creatures, and forest spirits directly into the bark of living cottonwood trees throughout the island. Searching for these hidden artworks makes for a delightful mindful walk or family photography outing.
